GUWAHATI, Aug 4: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway acting on information, arrested e-ticket touts from different locations during the last few days to check illegal sale of railway tickets. During this raid 21 railway e-tickets worth more than Rs 30 thousand were recovered. During the raid, two persons were arrested and prosecuted in this connection. In addition, RPF recovered left behind luggage of passengers worth more than Rs 2 lakhs from the train during their routine check.
On July 30, a team of RPF/Guwahati, on information, raided a shop named ‘Maa Sabitri Studio’ located at Kacharibasti, Guwahati with the assistance of local police of Dispur. The owner of the shop was arrested and the team seized 4 railway e-tickets worth around Rs 2580. In another incident, on August 2, RPF/Katihar along with RPF post/Barsoi acted upon information and conducted a raid at a shop named ‘F & Z Common Services & Electronics’ located at Sudhani, Bihar. 17 e-tickets were recovered from the shop worth around Rs 27,721.00 along with electronic items. The owner of the shop was arrested and all the e-tickets along with the electronic items were seized.
On July 31, RPF post/Hojai recovered one missing bag of a passenger from a train at Hojai railway station. While checking the bag cash worth Rs 3500.00, mobile phone and other items were found. Later after proper verification the recovered bag was handed over to the owner. In another incident on August 1, RPF post/Tinsukia recovered one backpack of a passenger while conducting a routine check at train no. 15908 Naharlagun – Tinsukia Vistadome Express. On opening the bag, valuables including a laptop worth more than Rs 2 lakhs were found. Later the recovered articles were handed over to the owner after proper verification.
It may be mentioned here that, during the period from January to July, 2022, RPF of NF Railway recovered 1902 railway tickets from touts worth more than Rs 23.26 lakhs and arrested 148 touts. During the same period as many as 225 left behind luggage of passengers worth more than Rs 36.80 lakhs in various trains/stations were recovered and handed over to owners after proper verification.
