KHERONI, July 9: Congress MP Rakibul Hussain on Wednesday continued his tour of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, visiting the residence of West Karbi Anglong Youth Congress Committee member Augustine Inghee and the Block Congress office at Dongkamukam.
During his visit, Hussain made sharp remarks against the BJP-led Assam government, alleging inhumane evictions in Dhubri and accusing officials of following chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s directives.
Speaking to the media, the MP termed the evictors “demons” and alleged that poor families were being driven out to clear land for industrialists like Adani, citing large-scale land handovers in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
Hussain alleged contempt of court in eviction operations, stating that the displaced were not given prior notice, and called for judicial intervention.
He claimed officials were intimidating villagers by speaking in Hindi and violating Supreme Court and High Court orders related to resettlement and electricity disconnections.
Targeting the BJP, Hussain said the country’s economy was deteriorating under its rule.
He referred to Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang as the “ATM” of the chief minister and claimed that even CM Sarma was losing weight due to mounting pressure.
The Congress MP also criticised the government for youth migration from Karbi Anglong in search of livelihood and recalled former CM Tarun Gogoi’s positive ties with the region.
The visit formed part of the Assam Congress’s ongoing political outreach in the hill districts.
