Representatives of political parties oppose delimitation in Demow

DEMOW, Aug 12: The representatives of Asomiya Yuva Mancha, All Tai Ahom Students Union, All Tea
Tribes Students Association, All Adivasi Students Association of Assam, Tai Yuva Chatra Parishad,
Congress Party, Raijor Dal and AJP have opposed the final report on delimitation of Assam.
Jadab Gogoi, president of Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM), central committee strongly opposed the
delimitation as two constituencies namely Amguri Constituency and Lahowal Constituency of Upper
Assam have been eliminated where indigenous people live.
The Thowra Constituency was renamed as Demow Constituency in earlier draft. Jadab Gogoi alleged
that Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain made conspiracy to attach Thowra Constituency to Sivasagar
Constituency but due to widespread protests Demow Constituency regained its status.
Biswanath Nag, secretary of ATTSA, Demow Branch said that Election Commission of India was supposed
to be impartial and democratic but he alleged that the Election Commission of India has an inclination
towards BJP Government.
Binod Konwar secretary of Sivasagar District Congress Party criticised the present government and
alleged that this government has been against the indigenous people. Sumeet Kumar Handique, Joint
Secretary of ATASU, Sivasagar District, Biswanath Nag, secretary, ATTSA, Demow Branch, Dipak Konwar,
president of TYCP, Binod Konwar, secretary of Sivasagar District Congress Party, Raijor Dal Sivasagar
district leaders were present.
