NAGAON, Nov 21: One pedestrian identified as Swapan Bhowal of Nambor Lalungaon, died in a tragic road mishap on NH 36 at Kathiatoli bus stand near Kothiatoli Chariali on Monday while four others including two women pedestrians were injured in the same incident.

The tragic incident took place when a speeding Ultra bus bearing registration number AS 02 AC 8588 going towards Lanka town hit those pedestrians.

Meanwhile, local residents and other police personnel from Kathiatoli Outpost sent all of them to Nagaon Civil Hospital in a very critical condition for urgent treatment. But unfortunately Swapan Bhowal breathed his last on the way to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital, sources said, adding that the driver of the bus managed to escape from the scene right after the incident.

Meanwhile an irate mob from the local areas went on a rampage and staged a protest against frequent fatal road mishaps on NH 36 near Kothiatoli Chariali and asked the local police administration to ensure adequate measures to control speed of vehicles on the road.
