TEZPUR, Dec 23: Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti has announced several awards to be conferred during its Golden Jubilee celebrations and the 30th biennial State conference to be held from January 2 to 5 at the Padma Shri Dr Sheela Borthakur Memorial Field, Kuworitol Gandhi Playground, Kaliabor. Founded in 1974, the Samiti is completing 50 years this year.
The celebrations will feature the release of 1,111 e-books along with printed publications. The inaugural day on January 2 will include plantation of 50 Nahar saplings, inauguration of the main stage by Kaliabor Co-District Commissioner Raj Barua and lighting of the ceremonial lamp by social worker Bimal Barua, followed by cultural programmes.
On January 3, the Samiti flag will be hoisted by president Subarna Saikia Bordoloi, followed by tributes to founder president Dr Sheela Borthakur. The day will also feature a book fair, exhibition, young writers’ conclave and a poetry meet inaugurated by Sahitya Akademi Award winner Kamal Kumar Tanti.
January 4 will witness a cultural procession and the first open session, to be inaugurated by Minister Keshab Mahanta with Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka as chief guest. The concluding open session on January 5 will be inaugurated by former president Dr Charu Saharia Nath, with Kaziranga MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa as chief guest.
The Samiti announced key award recipients, including the Kabya Bharati Nalini Bala Devi Award to poet Lutfa Hanum Selima Begum, the Padma Shri Chandraprabha Saikiani Award to writer Dr Charu Sahariya Nath, the Jinu Konwar Memorial Sanskriti Sadhana Award to singer Tarali Sarma and the Samajik Sangbadikota Bota to journalist Pankaj Baruah. The Jorhat District unit and Doomdooma branch will receive awards for best district and best branch.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations are expected to be a major literary event marking the Samiti’s contribution to Assamese language and culture.
