Sahitya Sabhas submits memorandum to CM for implementing Official Language Act

TEZPUR, Feb 27: Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha and Tezpur Sahitya Sabha submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma through the Sonitpur District Commissioner seeking effective implementation of the Assam Official Language Act, 1960.

The memorandum stated that although the State government issued directives for proper implementation of the Act through official notification No PLB 560215/78 dated April 14, 2025 and official letter No PLB 560215/117 dated October 15, 2025, addressed to all government offices, no tangible impact has been observed on the ground. The Sabha urged the government to take realistic and effective measures to ensure full implementation of the Act across all government offices in the State terming the issue highly sensitive in the context of safeguarding Assamese language and culture.

The memorandum were submitted on behalf of the Asam Sahitya  Sabha through Sonitpur District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das  by the Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha  and the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha comprising a delegation led by  Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha president Dr Sukdev Adhikari, former district president Dr Bhupen Saikia, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha president Dhrubajyoti Das, district secretary Kamini Barua, organising secretary Kanak Bhattacharyya, treasurer Dulal Goswami and executive committee member Manoranjan Bhagawati.
