Sankari sangeet workshop concludes in Morigaon

MORIGAON, July 15: A 15-day summer workshop initiated by Sankari Sangeet Vidyalaya, Morigaon, commenced on July 1, 2024, concluded successfully on Monday. The workshop aimed to introduce the timeless creations of the saint Srimanta Sankardeva to the younger generation through dance, musical instruments, and theatre.

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Department, government of Assam, in collaboration with Jagiroad Cultural Center, Morigaon, the Sankari Sangeet Workshop saw participation from 95 students in dance, 12 in bayan, 5 in borgeet, and 35 in ankiya natak.

The workshop featured six renowned Sankari musicians: Prasanna Kumar Medhi, Tapas Bardoloi, Utpala Hokai, Kumkum Parashar Deka, and Jagriti Bardoloi. Mrin Deka led the workshop, and the closing ceremony took place at Jagiroad Cultural Center.

Angshuman Dutta, district cultural officer, Morigaon, inaugurated the event, which was chaired by Gyanmuhan Deka, president of Sankari Sangeet Vidyalaya. The ceremony was attended by officials including Jairam Deuri, vice president of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Morigaon district, Diganta Mahanta, secretary, Ajay Kumar Deoraja, president of Sanskriti Sakha, and Ramajit Bardoloi, vice president.

The workshop concluded with the successful staging of the Sankari drama ‘Parijat Haran’ directed by Prasanna Kumar Medhi, with co-direction from Tapas Bardoloi and Utpala Hokai. Parents and guardians supported the event, which contributed significantly to the mental and physical development of the students.
