Tezpur, 11 Oct: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, today attended a special event held at Tezpur in Sonitpur district as the chief guest, where he formally unveiled the third book by children’s author, writer, and essayist Hrishikesh Goswami, titled “Postmasteror Sadhu” — a collection of essays.
The event began with the rendition of a Borgeet composed by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, performed by artist Jasmine Baruah. Tezpur MLA Prithviraj Rabha graced the event as the special guest, while Rupkowar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s daughter Jyanshree Pathak and Not Surya Phani Sarma’s son, actor Sujit Sharma, attended as honoured guests. Sanjeev Phukan and Dhairya Hazarika, executive editors of Dainik Janambhumi and Asomiya Pratidin respectively, participated as distinguished guests and highlighted Hrishikesh Goswami’s contribution to Assamese literature.

Unveiling “Postmasteror Sadhu”, Minister Sarbananda Sonowal remarked that post offices were once an integral part of rural life, acknowledging the important role of the postmen who carried letters from them. In his speech, the Minister said that one’s birthplace is the greatest place on Earth, adding that Tezpur holds a special place as a land where great cultural icons have made immense contributions to Assam’s cultural heritage.
Speaking to journalists after the event, the Minister also referred to Zubeen Garg’s recent comment that “a nation that doesn’t read books cannot be saved by the gamocha,” saying that the Chief Minister has taken necessary steps to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg.
In his address, author Hrishikesh Goswami shared that he has been writing continuously since 2021, and that he chose the title “Postmasteror Sadhu” for his new collection of essays. Recalling his close connection with Tezpur and the memories of the Assam Movement, Goswami extended his warm regards to everyone present.
