KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 23: Noted agriculturist Sarbeswar Basumatary of Chirang district was conferred the Padmashri Award at a programme held in New Delhi on Monday.
President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented the award to him during a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
Basumatary is an eminent agriculturist of Bijni in Chirang district of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Basumatary’s is a prominent farmer and has been rendering his valuable services towards improving and developing the agricultural aspects in the region.
He is currently serving as the member of the advisory board of the fishery department of Chirang. He is also a member of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and sericulture of Chirang district.
After receiving the Padmashri, Basumatary expressed his gratitude to the President of India, and government of India for conferring the honour amidst the presence of several senior citizens and Union ministers. He said that the award will further encourage him to contribute to the field of agriculture more.
The chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro also extended his warm greetings to Sarbeswar Basumatary on being honoured with the third highest civilian award in the coun try.
“I am glad to extend my warm greetings to Sarbeswar Basumatary, who was conferred with the prestigious Padmashri award,” Boro said.
