SIVASAGAR, Sept 7: The recent Sivasagar District Development Committee (DDC) meeting at Sukapha Bhawan addressed several crucial issues, including the proposed construction of an over-bridge in Amguri town at the NF Railway and NH61 crossing point near Amguri Town Chariali. This long-standing demand has been put forth by the residents of Amguri LAC and the neighbouring Mocokchang district of Nagaland.

The meeting, presided over by Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi, emphasised the ongoing discussions with railway authorities regarding the development of railway crossings in the district and the feasibility of constructing the Amguri over-bridge. MP Gogoi also informed that the District Development Committee has formally requested the NF Railway authority for a Rajdhani Express stoppage at Amguri.

Regarding the Amguri Railway over-bridge, Aditya Bikram Yadav, district commissioner, stated that the matter had been brought to the attention of the Railway Ministry, and they have expressed their willingness to work on it. However, it remains unclear who will bear the financial burden—whether it will be the railways, the central government, or the state government.

The meeting underscored the importance of completing the NH 37 expansion work within the district within the year and expediting all government-sponsored development projects across various departments. Notable attendees included the district Guardian minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, leader of the Opposition and Nazira MLA Debabrat Saikia, Amguri MLA Pradip Hazarika, Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain, the divisional manager of NF Railway in Tinsukia, representatives from the NHAI, BSNL, banks, and various district officers.
