SIVASAGAR, Dec 1: The Sivasagar DFO, Deven Kalita seized 2 sand filled dumpers (AS04AC 9412, AS04 AC 96050), one excavator (AS04C 6099), two timber laden trucks within 24 hours on Wednesday.
The raid against the illegal silt and sand mining from Dikhow, Desang, and Jhanji riverbeds and from different parts of the historic Jerenga Pathar, and Pohugarh areas are still continuing today.
The illegal earth and sand mining under Sivasagar forest division has been continuing for a long time despite protests from various organisations.
DFO Kalita told this correspondent that it is challenging to protect the forest resources with only 32 percent manpower available in the division.
“The illegal traders depart from the place of occurrence before the forest team arrives due to the lack of manpower,” he added.
