SIVASAGAR, June 23: Sivasagar district committee of Assam Sahitya Sabha has been preparing in full swing to hold the next Sabha executive meeting in the town on July 9 and 10 and has formed a reception committee with Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi as the president, Juga Gogoi as the executive president and Santosh Dutta as the general secretary besides forming eight sub-committees in a meeting held in Rangpur Sahitya Sabha on Tuesday. Attending the meeting, Topon Kr Gogoi assured all possible help to hold the meeting successfully. Earlier, Sahityacharjya Dr Nahendra Padun lit a light and offered floral tributes to ‘Seuj Konwar’ Parag Chaliha’s portrait on the occasion of his 23rd death anniversary.
While the Sivasagar district committee is holding a meeting for the central executive meeting in a big way, a section of the people here is very critical of the committee for its failure to submit the final account of the centenary celebration of Assam Sahitya Sabha through its special session at Jerenga Pathar, Jaysagar even after five years. Despite repeated appeals from various sections, the core committee has failed to live up to the expectations of the people. Prof Sonaram Baruah, president of the Centenary Sabha Session in Jaysagar told this correspondent on Wednesday that a number of sub-committees failed to submit their accounts on time to secretary Juga Gogoi which has caused much inconvenience for the committee. He said that an account has been prepared with the receipts which are available with him and the treasurer Dr Prakash Kotoky which will be made public soon.
