Sivasagar remembers the bard

SIBVASAGAR, Nov 7: Mahasati Radhika Sunworoni Mancha and Sivasagar district SC Students’ Union on Saturday organised the 11th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika with a two-day programme in ONGC Colony Officers’ Club.
The committee led by Pankaj Hazarika organised the All Assam Bhupendra Sangeet Competition on the first day.
Attending the open session, Basanta Gogoi, working president of ATASU, said that a man like Pankaj Hazarika, the organising committee president, spends almost all his time helping others in one way or the other.
Prof Nirupoma Bhattacharjya of Sibsagar College lauded the effort of the organisers in keeping alive the memory of the legendary singer, composer and filmmaker.
Dikhowporia Yuva Sangha organised a colourful programme on the day near the statue of the bard in Doulmukh Chariali. Ratan Saikia inaugurated the programme by igniting an earthen lamp near Dr Hazarika’s statue.
Himangshu Neog, Basanta Gogoi, MI Bora, Ratu Kumar Das, Parsajyoti Gogoi, Jakir Khan, Dibakar Das, Papu Shahu and many others were present.
Cultural activist Suraj Patiri recollected the days he spent with Dr Bhupen Hazarika when he visited Disangmukh.
Jantumoni Saikia Das, Pranati Baruah, Rasmirekha Gogoi, Abonti Buragohain, Parikhit Das, Ajanata Saikia, Jitu Barua, Manika Dutta, Samsul Jaman Hazarika and a number of others sang Dr Hazarika’s songs.
