BISWANATH CHARIALI, Sept 15: Brihattar Sootea Khilanjiya Mancha was constituted in a public meeting held at Natya Mandir Sootea on Wednesday with Trinayan Bora in the chair.
Addressing the public meeting, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika said, “It is the need of the hour that the indigenous people should stand united. If we stand united then we can challenge any type of anti-social elements which always tries to obstruct the peace and harmony of the age-old Assamese society. Due to the lack of our work culture, people sell their ancestral lands to the doubtful voters merely to get money. Now they have become a great threat to our society.”
Notably, the southern part of Sootea area has become a shelter house for the settlement of doubtful voters. The illegal settlers have constructed houses and dwellings filling the pits and ponds causing frequent floods in that area. A new committee for the safety and security of the greater Sootea area was constituted with Ananda Handique as president, Baneswar Bora as working president, Pranab Ojha, Dharma Sarma, Jiban Sarma and Gopal Das as vice presidents, Jiban Bora and Tridip Bhuyan as secretaries along with 31 executive members. The public meeting took several resolutions including freeing the land from the clutches of doubtful voters. The meeting was attended by many dignitaries of the area besides the general public.
