The film, directed by Kenny Basumatary and produced by Sarmistha Chakravorty, tells the story of a resilient young woman named Jiya. The audience, comprising many single mothers, found the film deeply relatable and inspiring. One viewer commented, “Jiya is a life-changing experience. It feels like the story of someone we all know—a neighbour, a friend, maybe even ourselves.”

Critics and film lovers have praised ‘Jiya’ for its realistic portrayal of real-life struggles and compelling storytelling. Film critic Ambar Chatterjee described ‘Jiya’ as “a deeply personal and poignant tale of struggle and triumph, underlined by fantastic performances and able direction.” Popular actress Ila Arun commended the film for its beautiful depiction of the life and struggles of a single mother, urging everyone to support the film by watching it in theatres.

The special screening by Star Cement was more than just a movie outing; it was an event that fostered a sense of community and support among the attendees. The film has also been recognised with multiple awards at the Prag Cine Awards, including best film, best screenplay and dialogue (Kenny Basumatary & Sarmistha Chakravorty), best male singer (Angarag Papon Mahanta), and best background score (Ambar Das). These accolades have further boosted the film’s popularity among cinema lovers. The soundtrack of ‘Jiya’, featuring hit songs like ‘Xopun Xopun Loga’, ‘Nuphuta Jonak’, ‘Kothabur Jodi Hool Hoi’, and ‘Ei Xaadhu’, has also resonated deeply with listeners, contributing to the film’s success. The latest release from Jiya, ‘Udong Bukut’ sung by Sarmistha Chakravorty, has also been widely praised for its flawless lyrics and powerful rendition.

Star Cement’s special screening initiative is a reflection of the positive reception ‘Jiya’ has garnered and the strong connection audiences feel with its story. This initiative not only provided an enjoyable experience but also offered a source of inspiration and empowerment to the attendees.
