State AIDS Control Society team visits Jorhat

JORHAT, Dec 31: A state team of experts from Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS ) comprising of Manob Sujay Das, assistant director GIPA (Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA), (Mainstream) and Pallab Hazarika, assistant director of Youth Affairs of ASACS, was on a two-day visit to Jorhat to take stock of the activities undertaken by the District AIDS Control Society (Jorhat).
District AIDS control officer (Jorhat), Dr Bhaktimay Bhattacharyya, who is also the district officer of TB Centre (Jorhat) and nodal officer of District Tobacco Control Cell, informed that the team on Thursday visited Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous) Jorhat, and held discussion with officials of Red Ribbon Club of the institute, which included the college principal and other faculty members regarding organising of Youth Day celebration on January 29 next at the college.
Dr Bhattacharyya stated that the proposed event will be organised by the college with support from District AIDS Control Society in collaboration with ASACS.
The District AIDS Control officer further stated the team on Friday conducted a training session on AIDS Control Programme for staff of 104 medical helpline here at the District TB Centre, Jorhat.
Later, the team visited Kakojan Block PHC and also participated in a school health program at Kakojan Boys’ High School on the outskirts here along with staff of DTCC Jorhat.
Dr Bhattacharyya said that the team held an awareness programme on prevention of AIDS, TB and health hazards of tobacco consumption at the school.
