GUWAHATI, Dec 30: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said the Batadrava Cultural Project would serve as a blueprint of the Assamese vision for the future, reflecting the State’s civilisational ethos and cultural self-respect.
Addressing the media at the party’s central headquarters, State BJP spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi said the BJP government under chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been working towards holistic development of Assam under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.
Gogoi listed several major initiatives and infrastructure projects undertaken in recent years, including Advantage Assam 2.0, the bamboo-based bio-ethanol project at Numaligarh, the Sati Radhika Peace Park under the Brahmaputra riverfront project, the Gateway of Guwahati ferry terminal at Panbazar, the fourth unit of the Namrup fertiliser plant with a production capacity of 12 lakh metric tonnes, and the new terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
He said that towards the close of the year, the Union home minister dedicated to the people of Assam the Batadrava Cultural Project at Bordowa, the 5,000-seat Jyoti–Bishnu Auditorium in Guwahati, and the Guwahati Police Commissionerate office.
Referring to Gurujana Srimanta Sankardeva, Gogoi said the Batadrava Project symbolises the ideals laid down by the Vaishnavite saint, who shaped Assamese society in a holistic manner.
He added that the project would stand as a living representation of Assamese heritage and serve as a guiding framework for future generations.
The spokesperson said that after eviction of encroachments, the Avirbhav Kshetra has been developed by integrating 162 bighas of land adjoining Batadrava Than, which, he claimed, would bring long-term benefits to the State and reflect the government’s commitment to protecting jati, mati and bheti.
Gogoi also said the newly inaugurated Jyoti–Bishnu Auditorium, named after cultural icons Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, is the largest auditorium in eastern India, equipped with modern facilities and a seating capacity of 5,000.
On law and order, he said the inauguration of the Guwahati City Police Commissionerate office has strengthened policing infrastructure in the State.
Citing official figures, Gogoi claimed that Assam’s conviction rate has increased from 3 per cent to 25 per cent over the last five years, while the crime rate per lakh population has declined significantly.
The State BJP expressed gratitude to the Assam government for dedicating major projects to the people at the close of the year.
Gogoi also criticised the Congress, alleging that despite decades in power it failed to address Assam’s core issues, while asserting that the BJP government has taken firm steps, including eviction of illegal encroachments on satra lands and construction of the Batadrava Cultural Project at a cost of ₹222 crore, to deliver lasting solutions.
