GUWAHATI, Nov 25: The Assam government has announced the distribution of Scooters to deserving students who excelled in their Higher Secondary (HS) exams. Scheduled for November 30, this initiative focuses on girls with a minimum of 60 per cent and boys with an impressive 75 per cent in their examinations.
However, amidst the anticipation, Assam’s education minister, Ranoj Pegu, sounded a cautionary note on November 24. Minister Pegu shared concerns about fraudulent calls targeting Scooty beneficiaries, where some students reported receiving calls demanding money for registration and insurance through UPI transactions.
Minister Pegu, in a post on the microblogging site X, unequivocally urged recipients not to make any payments in response to such calls. He emphasized the importance of reporting these fraudulent activities to the nodal Principals. Pegu assured students and their families that the government has already covered the insurance and registration costs associated with the Scooty distribution, and no additional financial transactions are required.
