TEZPUR, June 17: Noted folk artist Tarawati Mili Bori of Dhemaji has been selected for the Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Smarak Bota-2026, which will be presented during the observance of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Divas at Gogamukh on June 20.
The award will be conferred jointly by Asam Sahitya Sabha and Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, marking the first time the two organisations have come together to observe the occasion.
According to a joint statement issued by Asam Sahitya Sabha Principal Secretary Debojit Bora and Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha Principal Secretary Kushal Thakuria, the award recognises Bori’s contribution to Assamese language, literature, art and culture.
The day-long programme will be held at Gogamukh Higher Secondary School in collaboration with the Dhemaji district units of both organisations.
The event will begin with flag hoisting by Asam Sahitya Sabha president Basanta Kumar Goswami, followed by homage-paying and a sapling plantation programme.
An open session scheduled for the forenoon will be presided over by Dr Goswami and inaugurated by Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha Padadhikar Bhabendra Nath Deka.
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu will attend the programme as chief guest, while Dibrugarh University professor Mrinal Kumar Barua and educationist Banajit Bhatta will deliver keynote addresses.
Among the special guests will be Padma Shri awardee Jadav Payeng, Asam Sahitya Sabha vice-president Padum Rajkhowa and Kushal Thakuria.
Several distinguished personalities from the fields of education, literature and public life are also expected to attend the programme.
The organisers have extended an invitation to the public to participate in the observance and pay tribute to Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha while celebrating the contributions of artists and cultural figures to Assamese society.
