DIPHU, Sept 5: Teachers’ Day was celebrated across schools, colleges and universities, commemorating the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the first Vice-President of India, in Karbi Anglong on Friday.

In Diphu, the 64th Teachers’ Day celebration was held at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall, Matipung.

The event was organised by the Lumbajong Education Block, Department of School Education, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

Participating as chief guest, KAAC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang stressed the need to give due respect to teachers, saying that without their guidance and teachings, one cannot become a respectable person.

“Teachers deserve respect as they devote their time and sacrifice to mould a person’s character. After parents, teachers are the ones guiding every child with moral discipline and care. Those who don’t show respect to their teachers only half gain knowledge,” the CEM said.

Addressing the teachers, Ronghang said it was a great honour to express respect, gratitude and admiration for those who dedicate their lives to shaping young minds and guiding society toward a brighter future.

He added that without quality education, no society can produce responsible citizens, visionary leaders or compassionate human beings.

The CEM stated that KAAC is committed to providing good educational infrastructure in both towns and villages, ensuring access to well-equipped schools, modern classrooms, digital tools and qualified teachers.

Calling upon students to honour their teachers, he said, “The true way to honour your teachers is not only by offering flowers or greetings, but by living the values they instill in you—discipline, honesty, and hard work. Carry forward their teachings and make them proud.”

He further urged everyone to move ahead with the vision of an empowered education system, where teachers feel respected, students feel inspired, and society feels uplifted.

On the occasion, the Department of School Education, KAAC felicitated Sarthe Phangcho, Headmaster, Tari Adong English LP School; Birendra Teron, Headmaster, Lumbajong Ove Chingthur ME School; Bidya Ram Singnar, Headmaster, Howraghat Govt.
