DIPHU, Feb 7: Under the aegis Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong observed 126th Birth Anniversary of Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe).
Teron was the first president of erstwhile Karbi Adorbar, the first Karbi organisation spearheading for a separate district or administration for the Karbis (then called as Mikirs), where late Semson Sing Ingti was the founding secretary.
The observation was held at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Memorial Town Hall and the celebration was organised by Art and Culture department, KAAC.
In honour of late Teron, KAAC has also declared a holiday.
At the Town Hall the chief executive member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang paid floral tribute and offered prayer at the statue of late Sarsing Teron, which was joined by executive member (EM) of KAAC and members of Autonomous Council.
“The people of Karbi know who late Semson Sing Ingti is. He is the general secretary of Karbi Adorbar. People honour him and give due recognition. But for late Sarsing Teron, who is the founding president of Karbi Adorbar has been forgotten. It was he together with late Ingti who have spearheaded for a separate administrative set-up for the Karbis in Assam. Through their selfless dedication and persistence the United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district was formed on November 17, 1951, now Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. We should honour him,” CEM said.
He also declared late Teron as the ‘Father of Karbis’ or ‘Father of Karbi Anglong.
“Late Sarsing Teron is also one of our great leaders and should honour him with respect. He is ‘Father of Karbis’ or ‘Father of Karbi Anglong.’ Next year the celebration will be grander at Taralangso. All government offices will have a holiday. The government employees in their respective offices will honour late Teron by offering floral tributes at his portrait and discuss about his life and activities,” he added.
On the occasion, a booklet ‘Short life sketch of Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe)’ was also released by the CEM.
The grandson of late Teron, Ratul Teron appreciated the KAAC authority under the CEMship of Ronghang that late Teron has been due recognition.
Teron suggested organising seminars and workshops and celebrate his birth anniversary annually. He particularly thanked the CEM for keeping a KAAC holiday in honour of late Teron.
