Guwahati, 15 Oct: Tension flared outside Baksa District Jail on Wednesday afternoon, 15 October, when five accused in the mysterious death case of Assam’s music icon, late Zubeen Garg, were transferred to the facility under tight police security. The convoy, carrying Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg, Nandeshwar Bora, and Paresh Baishya, was met with a sudden outburst of anger from locals gathered near the jail gate.
The crowd began pelting stones at the police vehicles, damaging one and injuring a female officer. Police quickly moved in, dispersing the mob and detaining several individuals. The protesters demanded that Mahanta and Sharma be presented before the public, forcing law enforcement to impose an extended security cordon around the area. Baton charges were carried out to bring the situation under control.

All five accused were later lodged inside the newly upgraded high-security complex of Baksa Jail under strict surveillance. Authorities confirmed that while the situation remains tense, additional security personnel have been deployed to prevent any further incidents.
