Teokporiya Literary Award 2021 conferred on author Ranju Hazarika

TEZPUR, May 24: “A nation can never remain healthy and enriched without literature. Literature is essential for proper development and upliftment of the nation,” acclaimed author Ranju Hazarika said in a meeting organised by Shikoli, a poetry magazine published from Teok, in collaboration with Mriganavi while he was conferred upon the Teokporiya Literary Award-2021. The award was presented to him at a ceremony held at the Green Ashiyana Resort, Chulung, Kaliabor on Sunday. It is worth mentioning that Ranju Hazarika, in the last four decades has written over 750 books in Assamese language in different genres like thriller, social, horror, science fiction, children, comedy, adventure and is considered as one of the most beloved writers of Assam. In his speech, the most popular author lamented that there is a rapid decrease of readers of Assamese books, the Assamese language and literature is in a very unhealthy state.
Shishubandhu Dulal Bora while attending as the chief guest in the programme said in his deliberation that Ranju Hazarika’s literature and writings have always inspired the younger generation and he truly deserve the position of the president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, the highest literary body of Assam. He urged the concerned authority to honour the author with the Gyanpeeth award.
Among others the event was attended by Pankaj Barua, president of the Akanir Sahitya Sabha and Basudev Sarma, president, Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha.
The award giving ceremony was hosted by Arupjyoti Hazarika, chief editor, Shikoli and welcome speech was delivered by Devajit Hazarika
