Tezpur Sahitya Sabha forms new committee in its annual general meeting

TEZPUR, Jan 2: Prominent educationist and writer Ramesh Chandra Kalita was elected as the president of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha and children’s litterateur Dwijen Nath as the secretary for the new executive committee of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha in a meeting held on the first day of the new year which was presided over by Dr Bhupen Saikia, while writer Nabin Chandra Lahkar and Pallab Bhattacharya were elected as the vice president and assistant general secretary respectively.
A twenty one members executive committee was formed in the meeting including Pankaj Barua, Mahendra Kumar Nath, Biswajit Boro, Bikashjyoti Kalita, Bhupen Kataki, Jitumoni Deva Choudhury, Niru Neog Bora, Marami Barua, Dibyajyoti Nath and Hareswar Goswami as executive member and Mrigen Chandra Bora, as magazine secretary, Diganta Kumar Bhuyan as auditor and Jagannath Bora as treasurer.
Prominent educationist and former controller of examinations, Tezpur University, Dr Bhubaneswar Saharia launched the much-awaited biographical novel on Hemanga Biswas penned by distinguished litterateur Dr Bhupen Saikia which was published by Katha, Guwahati, an eminent publisher of the state. Dr Saharia in his inaugural speech urged all those who have been working in the literary field to move forward with such notable creations during the days ahead to make an enriched and healthy literary scenario.
Speaking on the occasion, Jadab Chandra Sarma, principal secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha urged all to strengthen the hand of the apex literary body of the state in protecting the language, literature and greater interest of the Assamese nation.
Among other dignitaries, the meeting was attended by Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha secretary Dulal Nath as observer, senior members & retired professor – Mahendra Nath Keot and Dr Satish Chandra Bhattacharyya, literary pensioner Mrinali Chetia, Ram Chandra Chutia, retired principal Dr Abani Kuma Sarma, Dr Gahan Chandra Mahanta, Pulin Bhattacharya, Dilip Kumar Kakati, journalist Raj Kumar Mahanta, Kusum Kumar Barua, Dulal Goswami, journalist Pulak Kumar Deka, nationally acclaimed award winning teacher Benudhar Kakati and others. Debabrat Sarma, general secretary of the sabha conducted the proceedings of the meeting. Several notable resolutions were also passed during the annual general meeting.
