JORHAT, Aug 8: Jorhat Police on Sunday night arrested Amol Pawar of Maharashtra from Changki, Nagaland, on charges of his involvement in burglary cases in Jorhat.
A police source stated that the arrest of Pawar was a follow-up action after the arrest of Ankur Das from Sivasagar on August 3 on charges of committing two burglaries at Jorhat on August 2.
The source said that Pawar, who has a small jewellery shop at JB Road here, is accused of receiving stolen ornaments and melting it to hide from police.
After Ankur’s arrest, Pawar fled to Nagaland and had hidden stolen ornaments in houses of his accomplices named Sanjay Karmakar and Debobrata Saha of Rajamaidam locality here. Both of them too have been arrested and several gold and silver ornaments recovered, the source stated, adding that further investigation was on.
It may be mentioned here that police had arrested Ankur Das from Sivasagar and Rs 70000 cash, several gold ornaments, scooty used in committing crimes, two numbers of four-wheelers and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession.
