Thunderstorm claims two lives and injures five in Sonitpur

TEZPUR, July 23: Khelmati area in Sonitpur was struck by a devastating thunderstorm on Sunday evening at around 6:45 pm, resulting in two fatalities and severe injuries to five others. The incident caused a sense of shock and sorrow in the region.

The deceased have been identified as Dhiren Munda (35) and Mantu Munda (45) from No-2 Samukia village. They were busy uprooting paddy saplings in a field near Singimari LP School, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bandarmari Panchayat and Tezpur Police Station in Sonitpur district.

The identities of the five individuals who sustained serious injuries in the tragic incident are yet to be disclosed. They have been rushed to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have also been shifted to TMCH for postmortem examination and other necessary legal procedures.
