DIPHU, Aug 1: As directed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) a district level training programme and formal launching of new electoral forms was held here on Monday at the Karbi Anglong district deputy commissioner’s conference hall. The event was attended by the electoral registration officer, assistant electoral officer, BLO supervisors, BLOs and representatives of recognised political parties.
Karbi Anglong district Election Officer Kabyashree Dihingia said that the Ministry of Law and Justice has amended the representation of people act 1950 and the registration of electors’ rules, 1960. In that amendment Form -6, 7 and 8 have been made user friendly. The electors can now easily fill up the forms for registration in the electoral roll. Electors can apply online for correction, deletion and changes.
Dihingia also said that changes have been made in Summary Revision of voters. Generally there is only one qualifying date, i.e., January 1. Those completing 18 years of age by January 1, can apply to have their names included in the Electoral Roll. Now there are four qualifying dates i.e., January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
