Training programme held at Nagaon

NAGAON, Feb 14: Two training programmes on ‘High Density Multi-storey Bari System’ and ‘Oil Palm Cultivation’ were organised respectively at the training hall of the District Agriculture Office here at Nagaon on Monday last.
Both the programmes were organised by the District Agriculture department. The training was initiated by Luit Education Service Private Ltd.
The first training session was on ‘High Density Multi-storey Bari System’ with the objective to encourage natural farming through high-density multi-storey bari systems.
The programme was inaugurated by Ranjan Deka, district agriculture officer, in the presence of Habibul Haque, lead trainer, LESPL, Mizanur Rahman, SDAO, Jute, Surjya Kumar Amchi, SDAO, Raha, Bishnu Ranjan Saikia, SDAO, Kaliabor along with other dignitaries and officials.
Dr Khagen Sharma, retired DDA, Seed, and Directorate of Agriculture attended the programme as the resource person and spoke about the importance and floristic diversity of a typical bari system as per climatic conditions of the state. He also asserted on the different multi-storied cropping systems based on horticulture crops besides discussing various practices in sustainable management of bari-bio-resources.
The second training programme was on ‘Oil Palm Cultivation’ under NMEO-OP scheme aiming at area expansion of oil palm cultivation and popularising its production.
The session was led by Dr Hemen Kalita, principal scientist, KVK, Shillongoni who gave an introduction to oil palm and its cultivation. During the programme, Dr Ranjana Chakraborty, plant pathologist, KVK outlined an overview of the production technology of oil palm.
Over 30 officials of the department concerned participated in both training programmes, an official release added.
