TU vice chancellor Prof Vinod Kumar Jain demits office

HT CorrespondentTEZPUR, Sept 12: Tezpur University’s vice chancellor Prof Vinod Kumar Jain demitted his office on Friday last as he turned 70 years of age.

Tezpur University’s community organised a farewell ceremony for Prof Jain on Friday at Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha (KBR) Auditorium, where faculty members and non-teaching staff of the university shared their scrupulous experience working with Prof Jain.

Prof Jain joined Tezpur University as vice chancellor on February 22, 2018. Earlier, he held the office of the vice chancellor at Doon University, Dehradun, and the registrar (acting) at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, before joining Tezpur University. He displayed excellent academic and administrative prowess throughout his entire life. He bolstered Tezpur University’s sports infrastructure by constructing two state-of-the-art tennis courts and laying the foundation of a hockey ground. He also established the Proctor’s office at the university and re-established the IPR chair which was vacant for years.

Prof Ramesh Deka, vice chancellor of Cotton University, Prof D. K. Bhattacharyya, pro-vice chancellor of Tezpur University and Dr Biren Das, registrar of Tezpur University, felicitated Prof Jain in the farewell ceremony. Prof Jain thanked the faculty members and non-teaching staff of Tezpur University who facilitated him in administering the university. He praised Tezpur University for its exemplary research publications, infrastructure and student activities.

Prof. D. K. Bhattacharyya, the sitting pro-vice chancellor of Tezpur University shall perform the duties of vice-chancellor until a new vice-chancellor assumes office, stated a press release.
