GUWAHATI, July 26: The banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom–Independent (ULFA-I) has accused the Assam police of conducting ‘fake’ encounters.

In a press release, the ULFA-I targeted Assam DGP GP Singh and raised questions about alleged financial irregularities and encounters conducted by the police.

The outfit questioned the Assam police’s actions and accused them of shooting accused individuals without proper trials, labeling it as encounters.

They further challenged the police to provide evidence to justify their encounters and questioned how an accused under tight security could manage to escape with handcuffs and why they were forced to shoot.

The ULFA-I claimed to possess detailed information about all the alleged fake encounters that occurred in the past year, including the identities of the police personnel involved in the incidents.

The recent incident involved the arrest of Hem Chutia in Dibrugarh district for alleged extortion on behalf of the ULFA-I. The police reported that during his arrest, Chutia attempted to escape and was shot in the leg.

The ULFA-I warned the Assam police to refrain from creating further conflicts by firing at innocent youths and urged them to either stop conducting ‘fake’ encounters or leave the state.
