ULFA (I) cadre returns to mainstream

DIBRUGARH: An ULFA (I) cadre surrendered before Dibrugarh police on Wednesday. The cadre identified as Bikramjit Chetia alias Bikram Gogoi alias Ranjit Asom had deserted the ULFA camp and surrendered before Dibrugarh police.  A team of Chabua police went near the Assam-Arunachal border in Tinsukia district and brought the cadre to Dibrugarh. Bikram Gogoi is a resident of Chabua, Dibrugarh and he joined ULFA (I) in 2019. Dibrugarh superintendent of police Shwetank Mishra said, “Bikram Gogoi’s family members contacted us that he wanted to return home. We have prepared and sent a police team from Chabua to bring him back. He was brought back to Dibrugarh and we have started our interrogation. We have sent the papers of his surrender to Guwahati police headquarter for their approval.” Bikram Gogoi, since joining the ULFA (I) in 2019 has been living in an ULFA (I) camp at Myanmar. Meanwhile, many ULFA (I) cadres and leaders have returned back to the mainstream to lead a normal life. “We don’t know why he returned from ULFA (I) camp. We have started our interrogation process. Till now we cannot divulge any more details on him,” said Mishra.
