MORIGAON/DEMOW, Feb 22: Veteran journalist and writer Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty passed away in Guwahati on Sunday, prompting widespread condolences from the media fraternity and public representatives across Assam.
Chakraborty was regarded as a prominent figure in journalism, particularly in Morigaon district, where he was known for his contributions to newspapers and his mentorship of younger journalists.
Colleagues said his guidance and presence had long inspired media professionals in the region.
The Morigaon District Journalists Association expressed deep sorrow over his demise, noting that his passing has left a significant void in the local journalistic community.
Former association presidents Upen Chandra Deka, Mahendra Nath Hazarika, Pratap Hazarika, Birinchi Kumar Sharma and Jagdish Nath, along with former secretary Bubumani Goswami and several senior and junior journalists, paid tribute to his legacy.
The Demow Press Club also condoled his death, describing him as a dedicated and respected journalist whose contributions would be remembered.
Demow MLA Sushanta Borgohain, in a message on social media, expressed grief over Chakraborty’s passing, stating that his commitment to journalism, insightful guidance and service through his writing would continue to inspire many.
He is survived by family members and admirers who remembered him as a committed journalist and mentor.
