Veteran journalist Dr Nabakanta Bordoloi passes away

MORIGAON, Nov 3: Veteran journalist, retired professor and noted writer Dr Nabakanta Bordoloi passed away in the early hours on Monday at his residence at Ward No 2 in Morigaon town. He was 82.

Dr Bordoloi retired from Morigaon College in 2004. As the news of his demise spread, a large number of people gathered at his residence to pay floral tributes. Later, his mortal remains were taken to the office of the Morigaon District Journalists’ Association, where the president, secretary and members paid their respects to their former president.

Several organisations, including Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, Praktan Chatra Satirtha Sanmilan, AASU, AALS and ATSU, also paid their last respects to the departed soul.

Dr Bordoloi served as the Morigaon district correspondent for The Sentinel for nearly five years and had also contributed to Assam Express and several Assamese dailies. He was the author of the popular grammar book Modern English Grammar.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son, a sister-in-law, a son-in-law, grandchildren and other relatives. His death has cast a pall of gloom over Morigaon district.
