We should not forget our country’s history: Kamakhya Tasa

JORHAT, Nov 14: The Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati under ministry of Information & Broadcasting has organised a three-day multimedia exhibition on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and 8 Years of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan at the playground of Bahona Boys’ HS School at Bahona, here from November 14 to 16.
An official said that Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, along with Dr Jayanta Deka, dean, Assam Agricultural University; Damodar Barman, ADC, Jorhat; Prasanna Kumar Dutta, principal, Bahona College and Arijit Chakraborty, deputy director, CBC, inaugurated the photo exhibition on celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence on Monday.
Around 50 creatives, including nine freedom-fighters of north-east are featured at the exhibition.
Addressing the public, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa said, “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of the country’s independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.”
He said that the exhibition presents an opportunity to learn about the history of the country’s freedom struggle and the events following the partition.
Expressing his gratitude to the ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Rajya Sabha MP said that these kinds of exhibitions are useful for citizens to remember the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and said, “As we remember the sacrifices, the young generation gets the inspiration to do their best for the country.”
He urged school and college students to visit the exhibition in large numbers and get to know the rich history of India.
Tasa praised Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati for choosing Bahona as the venue, where freedom fighter late Lakheswar Baruah not only had the courage to stand up against the British colonial rule, but also declared tiny Charigaon mouza as an independent nation and himself as its president in year 1942.
The Rajya Sabha Member urged the people to remember the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for the country’s independence. Tasa also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to highlight the freedom fighters as well the unsung heroes and expressed his gratitude for always focusing on the development of the north-eastern region.
Dr Jayanta Deka, dean, Assam Agricultural University, remarked that such an exhibition will create awareness amongst the people regarding the freedom fighters’ struggle.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Deka apprised that the “exhibition will help the masses to know about the sacrifice and valour of the freedom fighters of our nation”.
Biman Baruah, son of freedom fighter late Lakheswar Baruah, was felicitated by the Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa in the inauguration ceremony of the photo exhibition on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
