Webinar on Sociological Imagination held

KAZIRANGA, Sept 15: Department of Sociology, Government Model College Kaziranga (GMCK) in collaboration with department of Sociology, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya (MSSV) organised a webinar on Tuesday on the topic ‘Sociological Imagination: C.W. Mills’ approach to sociology’.
The webinar was inaugurated by Prof. Mridul Hazarika, vice chancellor of MSSV. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Hari Prasanna Deka Boruah, principal, G.M.C.K. Pusham Azad Babu, PhD scholar, Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, JNU, New Delhi was the key-speaker of the webinar. He delivered an illuminating lecture on ‘Sociological Imagination and C.W. Mills’ approach to Sociology’. The link between public and personal life problems has been observed through the lens of sociological imagination. Mill’s insights on everyday life have been one of the important works in sociology. The sociological imagination allows us to grasp the interconnectedness between the personal challenges and larger social issues.
The webinar was coordinated by Dr. Purabi Bhagawati, assistant professor, department of Sociology, GMCK. Dr. Karabi Konch, HoD, department of Sociology, MSSV and Gouri Prasad Sarmah, assistant public relation officer were the joint-coordinators of the webinar. The webinar was hosted by Dr. Purabi Bhagawati, where Dr. Parmita Khakhlari and Dr. Trinity Borgohain, assistant professor(s) of department of Sociology, GMCK presented the speakers’ details. Dr. Karabi Konch, HoD, department of Sociology, MSSV moderated the question hour session. More than 110 participants joined the webinar.
