West Karbi Anglong ready for Assembly polls, over 2,000 personnel deployed

HAMREN, March 17: The district administration of West Karbi Anglong has completed preparations for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026, officials said on Tuesday.

With the Model Code of Conduct already in force, all election-related activities are being carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

According to the notified schedule, the last date for filing nominations is March 23, scrutiny will be held on March 24, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 26, polling will take place on April 9, and counting of votes will be conducted on May 4.

In terms of preparedness, the 111-Rongkhang (ST) Assembly constituency has 195 polling stations with a total of 1,00,589 voters, including third gender voters. The 112-Amri (ST) constituency comprises 164 polling stations with an electorate of 1,32,401 voters.

Officials said a total of 35 election cells have been constituted in the district.

Five zonal officers have been appointed in each constituency, while 22 sector officers have been deployed in Rongkhang and 32 in Amri to ensure effective supervision and coordination.

More than 2,000 polling personnel have been engaged across the district for election duties.

District Election Officer Preeti Kumari appealed to all stakeholders, including political parties, officials and the general public, to extend full cooperation to ensure that the elections are conducted in a peaceful, free, fair and transparent manner.
