Dibrugarh, July 13: Kirandeep Kaur, the wife of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, along with Neeru Kalsi, wife of Daljit Singh Kalsi, and their son Simarjeet alias Sunny Singh Kalsi, visited Dibrugarh Central Jail on Thursday. The visit took place under heightened security measures following a recent incident involving the alleged passing of a letter to Kirandeep by Amritpal Singh during a previous meeting on July 6.
Accompanied by Neeru Kalsi and their son, Kirandeep underwent strict security checks at the jail gate before being granted permission to enter the premises. As per regulations, no items were permitted to be carried inside the jail during the visit.
The superintendent of police, Shwetank Mishra, was present at the jail during the visit, ensuring the overall security and management of the situation.
The recent controversy arose when Amritpal Singh allegedly handed a letter to Kirandeep Kaur during her previous meeting with him. The letter, written in Gurumukhi script and dated July 5, 2023, was addressed to the Sikh community and signed by all nine of Singh’s associates who are also detained in Dibrugarh jail.
In the letter, Singh urged the Sikh community to abstain from drugs and uphold Sikh religious principles. Additionally, he demanded that two individuals, allegedly pro-Khalistani and recently killed in the United States and the United Kingdom, be recognised as Shaheed (martyrs).
Amritpal Singh was brought to Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 23 after his arrest by Punjab police from Moga district. The nine associates of Singh, also lodged at the same facility, have been booked under the National Security Act (NSA). Their names are Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
