JORHAT, Aug 7: A woman without clothes and bearing injury marks on her body was found near the railway tracks at Rajabari, opposite to the Tea Board office here early Sunday. She later succumbed to her injuries at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased was identified as Rohima Begum of Barpeta and she was about 35 years old.

The local people who found her said that they were shocked to see her in that state but that she was coherent and gave them a phone number of her family to contact but that she could not say how she came to be in that state.

A woman of the locality told newspersons that when they contacted 108 ambulance service, the person at the other end first refused stating that there was no ambulance and then said that a person should accompany them to the hospital.

“In response to this, we told him that the woman was a stranger and none of us were her kin. The 108 service personnel then outright refused to take her to hospital, following which we asked them to contact the police as we did not have the numbers of the police stations,” she added.
The woman lay in that state, becoming lifeless soon after, for about four hours before the police arrived.
