A woman from Bahjani village, under 5 no Uttar Pachim Gaon Panchayat of Bongaon development block in the 28 no Boko-Chaygaon LAC in Kamrup district, has been left dismayed by the peculiar actions of the state government. Junu Boro, a married woman, alleged that she has been deprived of the state government’s ambitious scheme ‘Arunodoi’, despite her portrait appearing in the advertisement leaflet for the same scheme. The couple is currently in a state of shock over the government’s use of their photo in the Arunodoi scheme’s advertisement.

It is worth mentioning that the state government launched an ambitious scheme for women below the poverty line in Assam on October 2, 2020. The state government is providing around Rs 1000 per month under the Arunodoi scheme to eligible households so they can purchase basic food products.

Junu Boro further alleged that she applied for the Arunodoi scheme three times but did not receive any assistance. However, women from her village, her neighbours, are already benefiting from the scheme. When asked about her photo appearing in the scheme advertisement leaflet, she responded that she learned about it for the first time from her friends in the market and later personally checked the leaflet. She also mentioned that sometimes different people take photos of her while she is in the market.

The couple has now urged chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to provide them with the benefits of the Arunodoi scheme since their photos have been published. Junu Boro, who is also deprived of government housing, informed the media that she sells vegetables in the Bamunigaon market three days a week to support her impoverished family.

When inquired about the matter, circle officer of the Chaygaon Circle Office, Chiranjit Das, stated that he had no information regarding this issue. However, he assured that he will discuss the matter with the Bongaon development block officer, and the family will soon benefit from the scheme.
