GUWAHATI, Sept 18: HDFC Bank, one of India’s leading private sector banks, conducted a virtual session on safe digital banking practices for over 1,000 teachers from schools and colleges across the country.
The initiative aimed to sensitize educators about cyber frauds and equip them with the knowledge to protect themselves and their communities from online scams.
The session featured real-life examples, stories, and videos to help participants understand the various techniques used by cybercriminals.
Topics covered included common cyber threats such as vishing, phishing, smishing, remote device access, SIM swap, and UPI frauds.
Participants were also briefed on scams disguised as investments, job offers, fake arrests, and courier-related frauds, along with methods to prevent such attacks.
In addition, the workshop provided practical guidance on secure net-banking and safe online shopping, highlighting best practices to safeguard sensitive banking information.
Teachers were advised not to share confidential credentials and were instructed to report suspicious calls or messages via the Chakshu portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in).
Commenting on the session, Manish Agrawal, senior executive vice president – Credit Intelligence and Control, HDFC Bank, said, “Lack of awareness causes people to fall prey to cyber frauds. These sessions aim to equip educators with the knowledge to navigate the online world safely and to prevent inadvertent sharing of confidential banking data or clicking on unverified links.”
HDFC Bank reiterated its advice to customers to exercise caution while transacting digitally, avoid sharing personal banking details, and immediately report any unauthorised transactions.
Customers are encouraged to block the payment mode, contact the bank, and file complaints via the MHA helpline (1930) or the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in).
The initiative forms part of HDFC Bank’s ongoing efforts over the past four years to promote cyber fraud awareness and secure banking practices through workshops and awareness sessions across India.
