GUWAHATI, March 6: Wagh Bakri Tea Group, launched a special initiative ‘Cup of Goodness’ for supporting tea pluckers in North-East India, reinforcing its commitment to women’s health, hygiene and education on the occasion of International Women’s Day, said an official statement on Thursday.
“Under the initiative, 5% of the total bill at Wagh Bakri Tea Lounges will be donated towards a dedicated fund aimed at improving health and hygiene awareness and supporting the education of tea pluckers’ children,” the statement claimed.
The campaign will run for the next 13 months.
Earlier, Wagh Bakri Tea Group ran a pilot project for the initiative, benefiting around 700 tea pluckers from tea gardens in Assam.
Wagh Bakri Tea Group contributed Rs 12 lakh raised through the initiative which had benefited the tea pluckers in Assam.
Commenting on the initiative, Vidisha Parag Desai, director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, said, “Through this initiative, we aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of tea pluckers, who form the backbone of our industry, by addressing critical issues related to health, hygiene and education”.
Speaking on the past pilot project, Desai said, “The success of the pilot project has reinforced our belief in the positive impact we can create, and we are committed to continuing this support for the next 13 months”.
He further expressed his gratitude to his customers at the event.
“We are also thankful to our customers for their support of the initiative and want to reiterate that every cup of tea they consume at Wagh Bakri Tea Lounge is a cup of goodness,” he said.
Kritanjali Kashyap of BAL RAKSHA BHARAT NGO said, “Tea pluckers face significant challenges in accessing basic healthcare and hygiene facilities, and their children often lack educational resources. This collaboration with Wagh Bakri Tea Group will provide much-needed support and create meaningful opportunities for these communities. We are grateful for this initiative and look forward to its sustained impact.”
Launched on International Women’s Day, the programme will touch and improve the lives of tea pluckers and their families, furthering Wagh Bakri Tea Group’s long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility.
