Dubai, April 28: Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced on Sunday a new airport project worth approximately 35 billion US Dollars (Rs 2.9 lakh crore).
The new airport, named Al Maktoum International Airport, will have five parallel runways, a capacity to accommodate 260 million passengers, and 400 aircraft gates.
The ruler stated in a post on X that the project aims to ensure ‘continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn’.
All operations from Dubai International Airport will be moved to the new airport, which will be five times larger.
The airport will introduce new aviation technologies and host leading logistics and air transport companies.
A city will also be built around the airport in Dubai South to provide housing for a million people. The cost of the new terminal is estimated at 128 billion AED (34.85 billion US Dollars or Rs 2.9 lakh crore).
