Islamabad, Dec 18: Rumours circulating on social media about the alleged poisoning and hospitalisation of underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim in Pakistan have been dismissed by credible intelligence sources.

These rumours, which originated on December 17, were fueled by a video posted by a Pakistani YouTuber who based his speculations on unverified social media reports. The YouTuber also linked these rumours to a sudden internet shutdown in Pakistan.

However, authoritative sources have refuted these claims, saying the internet disruption was due to a virtual meeting of the opposition Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Netblocks, a global internet freedom watchdog, confirmed significant restrictions on major social media platforms in Pakistan for about seven hours on Sunday evening.
