Boston, March 22: In a significant development, a 62-year-old man became the first human recipient of a kidney from a genetically modified pig, as per surgeons at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Richard Slayman had been on dialysis due to kidney failure. The transplant surgery was performed by Dr. Winfred Williams, associate chief of the nephrology division at Mass General. Slayman had previously received a human kidney transplant in 2018, which failed after five years.
