3 Girls Molested In West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri (WB), April 26 (PTI): Three separate incidents of molestation were reported in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri, raising concern over the security of women in the district.

In Maynaguri, a disabled girl was tied up and allegedly molested on Monday. A man was arrested in connection with the incident, superintendent of police Debarshi Dutta said.

He is the neighbour of the teenage girl, police said.

A 45-year-old man allegedly tried to rape a four-year-old girl on Monday afternoon. The incident happened in Jalpaiguri Sadar block when the girl, a neighbour’s daughter, was playing in his house, they said.

The child’s family alleged that when they went to the Jalpaiguri women’s police station around 3 pm, they were made to wait till 11 pm before the complaint was registered.

In another incident, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly molested in Belakoba panchayat area on Monday evening by a 60-year-old man, police said.

The girl, a student of class 9, was alone in her house when the incident happened. On hearing her screams, when the mother who was nearby arrived, the accused fled from the spot, they said.

A complaint was filed at the women’s police station on Tuesday afternoon.

The incidents happened on a day a teenage girl of the district died while undergoing treatment, weeks after she set herself on fire after being threatened to withdraw a complaint of attempt to rape.
