GUWAHATI, AUGUST 7: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), which functions under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has released three advisories recommending stepped-up security protocols throughout India’s aviation industry. The instructions, issued to airports, flights, flying schools, and other aviation units, are based on intelligence inputs indicating probable danger from terrorist or anti-social forces.
In its recent advisory, BCAS asked all stakeholders in the aviation industry to be on their toes between September 22 to October 2, 2025. According to the agency, central security agencies have issued alerts for possible threats during this period at different civil aviation premises.
“All stakeholders have to enhance monitoring and precautionary activities at civil aviation facilities like airports, airstrips, airfields, air force stations, and helipads,” the advisory added, highlighting the need for caution.
Despite this, a top government official downplayed the alarm level of the alerts, attributing them to standard security procedure before major national events. “BCAS issues similar instructions regularly before events like Independence Day, Republic Day, and other major festivals like Durga Puja,” said the official. He further added that a single advisory was sent directly to the Delhi government to enhance security at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
As per the official, the three advisories were one related to Independence Day, one as a general nationwide order to airports, and the latest one before the Puja season. “These are preventive measures, not out-of-the-way alerts, and have sadly been misinterpreted,” he stated. Up to now, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued no official public notice about the advisories.
