Children’s Day celebrated across state

DIPHU, Nov 14: Like in other schools, Children’s Day was also observed at DAV English LP School to commemorate the birth of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Teaching, non-teaching staff and students participated in the celebration.

Led by the headmistress Jacinta Ekka, staff and students offered floral tributes and lit candles in front of the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru.

A drawing and essay writing competition for children was also organised on the occasion.

Teacher Prajanya Pandey said, “Today is the birthday of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and to commemorate the day we celebrated Children’s Day. We offered floral tributes to the former Prime Minister and also organised a drawing and essay writing competition for children.”

She also said it is a great occasion to honour the first Prime Minister. By celebrating Children’s Day, the children will also get to know about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and his contribution to the country.

DAV English LP School has the highest number of students with 400 enrolments. There are 10 teaching staff.

The celebration ended with a prize distribution for the drawing and essay competition. In the drawing competition for Class 2, Sarrecho Terang got first prize, Klari Terangpi second and Martha Marak got the third prize. For Class 3, Bida Rongpi got first prize, Ram Terang got second and Songja Bey got the third prize.

In essay writing competition for Class 4, Waisong Tisso got first prize, Suresh Killing Chinthong second and Promila Rongpharpi in third prize and for Class 5, Jirsong Phangcho got first prize, Homsera Derapi second and Pirbi Timungpi third prize.

The teaching and non-teaching staff prepared lunch for the children on the occasion of Children’s Day.

Our Nagaon correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the nation, various educational institutions of the district observed ‘Children’s Day’ with a variety of programmes in their respective institutional premises on Monday.

Leading educational institutes in Nagaon like Christjyoti School, Nagaon Mission Secondary School, National Academy, and others are among those educational institutions which observed the day with day-long programmes.
The programme was initiated with floral tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India on his birth anniversary by the heads of those educational institutes.

During the day, the institutes also organised cultural programmes to make people aware of the rights of children, their welfare and their right to education.

National academy, Nagaon observed the day with a slew of cultural events. Principal Shamima Yasmin initiated the programme with a brief elaboration on the importance of celebration of Children’s Day.

She said, “Child is an asset to the nation tomorrow and hence everyone should take care of his or her ward’s rights, welfare and education.”

Our Demow correspondent adds: Children’s Day was celebrated in every school of Demow and its surrounding areas on Monday.

The programme started with the ceremonial lamp being lit before the portrait of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on Monday. On the occasion, the teachers spoke about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and encouraged the students to follow his footsteps. Different cultural programmes were also organised among students.

Our Morigaon correspondent adds: Sarvodaya Foundation in collaboration with Nehru Yuba Kendra (NYK), Morigaon celebrated Children’s Day with a funfair at the premises of Sarvodaya Public School on Monday.

The day-long celebration started with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by the accountant of NYK, Dhanajoy Talukdar at the portrait of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, followed by a cultural programme.

The students’ of Sarvodaya Public School sang songs and danced in the programme.

Earlier, the principal of Sarvodaya Public School, Lipika Bora felicitated the invited guests in the programme.
On the other hand, the Delta Public School, Morigaon celebrated Children’s Day with pomp & gaiety at the school premises. The principal of Delta Public School, Ratul Basumatary inaugurated the day in presence of children and teachers of Delta Public School.
