PANAJI, May 16 (PTI): The union ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying has announced the start of Phase-V of the Sagar Parikrama initiative from Raigad in Maharashtra from Wednesday.
A senior official said the program will end on May 19 at Canacona in Goa.
The initiative involves a voyage along a pre-decided sea route covering coastal states. Its main objective is to facilitate interaction with fisherfolk so as to disseminate information of various fisheries-related schemes and programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), officials had said earlier.
Union minister for fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying Parshottam Rupala along with officials from various governmental bodies and organizations will participate in the event.
It was launched in February as part of the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and has completed four phases, covering 19 locations in Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The Phase-V journey will encompass six locations: Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra and Vasco, Mormugao and Canacona in Goa.
During the journey, fishermen, coastal fishers, fish farmers and young fishery entrepreneurs will receive certificates and sanctions related to PMMSY, KCC and state schemes, the official said.
