As per sources, the vehicle that Rahul Gandhi was travelling in during the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in the district of Malda was hit by stones thrown by unidentified individuals, according to state party chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Congress representatives stated that the car’s window was shattered by the large crowds gathered in the Maldah district. The incident resulted in damage to the rear window pane of the vehicle, however, no injuries were reported.

The attack took place in the Harischandrapur area of Malda as the yatra re-entered West Bengal from Bihar. Social media is abuzz with visuals of the incident showing Rahul Gandhi inspecting the damaged windowpane upon reaching a scheduled stop.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has alleged conspiracy, expressing his displeasure at the incident. Rahul Gandhi is in Malda as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which commenced its second leg today, covering Malda, Murshidabad and parts of Birbhum before proceeding to Jharkhand.

The incident follows a previous event wherein posters and banners welcoming Gandhi in Cooch Behar were torn and the state government allegedly denied permission for the state Congress to host Gandhi at the state guest house.

The yatra is scheduled to enter Murshidabad on February 1 and exit the state the following day. So far, the yatra has covered 523 km across six districts of West Bengal including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Uttar Dinajpur, with Malda and Murshidabad planned for the second phase.
