New Delhi, March 24: Astronomers and stargazers are set to witness a penumbral lunar eclipse coinciding with Holi celebrations in India on Monday.
A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth intervenes between the Sun and the Moon, but not in a straight line.
The Moon, instead, traverses through the outer part of the Earth’s shadow, known as the penumbra. It’s essential to remember safety while observing a lunar eclipse to ensure a pleasant viewing session.
The upcoming eclipse on March 25 will see the Earth partially obstructing the Sun’s rays from reaching the Moon, casting a faint shadow on the Moon’s surface.
Penumbral eclipses are more subtle compared to total or partial eclipses, often necessitating keen observation to identify the slight darkening of the Moon.
